CRITICAL / SHOGUN AUDIO / METALHEADZ / RENEGADE HARDWARE
REPRESENTED BY JAMES SMITH
Since relocating from East Oxford to North London in 2010, Mantmast’s rise to Drum & Bass stardom has been nothing short of rapid. Citing such musical luminaries as A Tribe Called Quest and Group Home as major influences in the formative years of his career, it’s unsurprising that his delivery and rhyme flow is more akin to hip hop than D&B in its traditional sense.
Initially cutting his teeth at Oxford’s HQ, Hit & Run and the legendary Source nights in the mid-noughties, he was fast in demand at events further afield and it was only a matter of time before bookings at Movement and Renegade Hardware followed. 2010 proved to be a pivotal year after firstly receiving a nomination for Best Newcomer MC at the D&BA awards and then catching the ear of Shogun Audio’s KTee, Mantmast soon found himself catapulted amongst the drum & bass elite at DJ Friction’s signature label night.
Fast-forward to the present day and this multi-faceted MC has cemented himself as a regular fixture at label nights and festivals both home and abroad for Critical Sound.
Most recently, 2018 saw Mantmast’s debut releases on Critical Music after collaborating with Emperor on both title tracks of the producer’s EPs; Bloodsport and Boxcutter.
Engaging lyricism and diverse subject matter, executed with clinical delivery are all trademark features of this host’s vocal artillery.
